LED Replacement Bulbs and Other Ways to Make Your Home Eco-Friendly

IT STARTS WITH ONE

Saving the environment must always start individually. When you have instilled the importance of consuming less and recycling in your daily habits, only then can you influence other people to do the same. And what better way to start being green than in your own home?

Fortunately for us, there is a lot we can do in order to be more Earth-friendly.

GREEN IS THE NEW BLACK

Starting the green habit in your own home is the first initial step into making a change. Remember that every little effort counts. For instance, if you substitute your old lighting system for LED replacement bulbs, the energy you consume will be 20 to 25 percent less than conventional light bulbs. Small steps like this will result to beneficial long term effects in the future.

Greening the Appliances

Many Environmental Protection Policy allow for trading your old refrigerator in for a newer model; this can cutback your expenses on electricity and help you save up to $150 a year.

Appliances which are older than 10 years consume more energy than the latest models being manufactured today. Choose appliances with the Energy Star logo since they use 10 to 50 percent less of energy and water compared to conventional ones.

Conserve Water

Using water wisely has long since been implemented but its importance is still undermined by some people. Small installations on your water system at home, such as the use of aerators, will reduce your water usage for up to 50%.

Have an aerator installed in every faucet in order to maximize the value of saving tap water.  Low-flow toilets will admit less water in flushing. Post 1994 toilet models only use 1.6 gallons per flush while the older ones admit twice the volume.

Swap the old for the new one or you can have the float valve adjusted to admit less water.

LED Bulbs

Investing in LED replacement bulbs will prove valuable in the long run, despite the fact that you will have to spend quite a hefty sum on your first buy. Using it for a long time means saving a ton of money, since LED replacement bulbs only use 2 to 17 watts of energy.

Its life span is 10 times longer compared to compact fluorescents and they are more durable since it’s more solid and doesn’t contain filament.
Unlike compact fluorescents, LED replacement bulbs don’t build up heat. That means that then room will be much cooler compared to conventional lighting system. While conventional bulbs emit 85 btu’s per hours, LEDs only give off 3.4. Thus, it doesn’t get hot over time, even for long usage.

Common Types of LED Replacement Bulbs

1. Dimmable Globe LED – commonly seen in bathrooms and vanity rooms. The light can be adjusted from 100% to 10%.

2. Diffused LED – these lamps can be used as accent lamps, reading lamps, hallways, porches and rooms. The clustered LED is enclosed in a dimple lens which scatters the light.

3. LED Tube Lights – the most common type of LED seen in homes, intended to replace traditional fluorescent lights.

Home improvement geared into greening may seem like a huge investment, but the end results are much more valuable. Not only will you help save the environment, you will also be happier and more convenient
